Rona Schoenmannwas born Verona Jean Lee in Yuba City Wisconson on April 3rd, 1905. The family name was shortened from Lewison to Lee by her grandfather during the Civil War. She worked at many different jobs, but her writing skills were particularly developed while employed as a reporter for the Baraboo Republic, a local newspaper. Rona married Leonard Schoenmann, and they raised eight children on their dairy farm at Spring Green, Wisconsin. Rona and her husband converted the Round Barn on the farm to a restaurant in the early 50's. To this day the restaurant remains a landmark in southern Wisconsin. Later widowed, and her children grown, she moved to Oregon to care for her mother. Rona retired to Florida at age 79, where she was asked to support the Chaplains Corner (a local newsletter). It was here that many of her stories were written. Rona now resides in Oregon once again, as much of her ever-growing family is located on the West Coast. She proudly boasts of her 74 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. | ||||
