We scanned the original manuscript, and applied the image to the B-spline surface seen below -- this (believe it or not) is a 3D MicroStation design (by my wife Mia, and our friend Bob H.). Similar approaches were employed to create the Ink Bottle and Pen. The entire mess was yhen Ray Traced, which took 4-ever -- circa 1990, but the results were certainly worth it!
